Surabaya is in the air !! Culinary (part 1)

Hello blogger, miss me ? I guess No, hahhaa.
I  just find that starting to write again is not as easy as I thought. -___-
Actually I have so many things to share, I just cannot chose which part  I should write first.
Hmmm, in this session I am gonna write about Surabaya.
I visited Surabaya on March 2016, I was there around 11 days. But, don't you know? I didn't go to any tourism sites because of my working agendas there, poor me !
Yeaahh, I know it was so sad. But, fortunately I still had time to taste Surabaya Culinary for dinner time.
Here, I try to summarize and give some reviews for Surabaya Culinary.

1) Sate Kelapa Ondomohen (Satay with Fried Coconut Flakes Topping)

My driver took me and my friend here for dinner. He recommend me to try Mix Satay. I thought that the satay only consist of chicken and beef, but jengggg jenggg jengggggg after the satay served on my table, I knew that the mix satay consist of almost the whole part of cow, I mean the beef, the grease, the kidney, the skin, and also the intestine. Oh God.....
What makes it special from the satay here is because it served with peanut sauce and srundeng. Srundeng is an Indonesian spicy fried coconut flakes, which is made from sautéing grated coconut, and is often used as a side dish to accompany rice (wikipedia). I ate the satay with lontong (rice cake), but you can order rice if you don't wanna eat that with lontong.
Actually, the taste was good. I could accept the peanut sauce mix with srundeng. But I couldn't eat except the beef satay. So if you don't like the grease, the kidney, the skin, and also the intestine of the cow, you may not order for mix satay. That is my best suggestion. Overall, the taste is good.
It is located on Jalan Walikota Mustajab No 36 Surabaya.

2) Bon Ami Restaurant
The place is cozy, romantic, quite, and the food is very delicious. I do love the decoration. It looks like we will be brought in the colonial era. As I remember, me and my friend ate Satay, Grilled Prawn, Chicken Teriyaki, and Rujak Cingur. I like all foods served except Rujak Cingur. For me, this dish was too fishy, because the sauce is mix of peanut sauce and Indonesian shrimp sauce (we called it Petis), and I don't like it. hahaha.
How about the price ? Hmm.. maybe lil bit expensive. Around 30.000 - 50.000 for the food and 10.000 - 30.000 for the drink. But you will not regret. ^_^
Here the location address : Jl. Dr. Soetomo No 94 Surabaya.

3) Depot Anda
This is my favorite place since I visited Surabaya. I do really want to go there again. My favorite is the oxtail soup. Big portion and very very delicious. The meat is so soft. You could detach it from the bone easily. The price is quite expensive, You have to spend 55.000 rupiah for one big portion of the oxtail. The other dishes served are nasi Campur, Nasi Rames, all Indonesian foods.
The location is on Jalan Walikota Mustajab 72, Surabaya.

4) Rawon Setan
Here we come to the most famous dish in Surabaya. Yesss,, It is Rawon Setan of Satanic Rawon. Hahahhaa. Don't be afraid of the name, the place is not haunted.
At the first time I heard about the Rawon Setan, I thought that the dish would has a very very spicy taste. Because in Indonesia, food that named with Setan, Iblis, or the other haunted name usually have a very very spicy taste. But then I knew that I was wrong.
The Rawon itself is not spicy, but the Sambal is (all sambal are spicy, hahahha).
Why it was called Rawon Setan, because thousand years agooooo this place only open near on the mid night, around 23.00 until 02.00. That was the time when the ghost came out. hahhaa.
But now, someone informed me that the restaurant open 24 hours a day. Wowww.
Back to the taste of the Rawon, for me, I like it. You can see the black soup from Kluwak, and the big slices of meat, I compared it with the other Rawon I have ever seen. The beef is soft, and the seasoning is light but tasty.
The condiment you gonna find such as salty egg (it is really salty, trust me), many kinds of kerupuk (Indonesian crackers), and also perkedel (Indonesian potato pancake)
The other interesting from this place is when you ask for an extra rice, you will get a bigger portion that the previous portion you get with your rawon. I don't know why. hehehe.
The location of Rawon Setan is very easy to find.
It is on Jalan Embong Malang Surabaya, in front of JW Marriot Hotel.

If you want to know more about Surabaya Culinary and the Hotel I slept in, go to my next post. Enjoy ^_^
